When I think of a good old fashioned road trip, I imagine a dusty open road and an unfolded road map.

I have never been on a road trip like that in my life. Do they even exist like that any more? I can’t tell you the last time I used a proper road map – certainly not any time since GPS units became popular. With so much new technology coming out so rapidly, road trips will never be the same – but embracing the “new road trip” can be an adventure in itself – and make your trip a lot less stressful, and even more interesting.
